Alice in Wonderland : Little Girl on Acid

by Jared Gutierrez

One of the most praised stories told by Disney, Alice in Wonderland (1951) proved how an animated movie should really be made. With so many plots and exaggerated themes throughout the movie, Disney managed to make it colorful and alive that created the sense of entertainment. From talking to creatures to constant change in perception, the so called “Wonderland” was not defined completely; meaning it could be anything. Alice’s adventure without any doubt is unique and later in the film it was revealed that it was a dream after all. Was it really a dream? How long was this dream? These questions bring up the fact what really happened and not what the audience sees. While the movie was targeted for children, Alice in Wonderland can be viewed as a little girl on an acid trip.

The movie originated from the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland which was published in 1865. Converting the paper story to the widescreen, it needed so much details and creativity whether it was the character design or the environments. Alice had to face talking animals, a queen, forests, king of hearts and so much more. The visuals are far more than just a dream and even the changes in vision with this little girl just proves that it isn’t an ordinary dream.

Psychedelics are drugs that includes hallucinations and could even flip unwanted conscious beings. This dream that is created could be Alice’s imagination from past story telling and was warped when the trip was being held. Another theory could be that the trip consisted of past bed time stories she could’ve had and was blended all together which is why maybe she jumped to different plots such as the tea party and the queen encounter.

All of these theories are all speculation. What we predict could actually be true and with further research one can claim that the whole movie is an Easter egg. Next time you watch Alice in Wonderland, think what really happened and see what type of acid trip she went to because it could all be true.
